Object History

The Spike chair, my final piece for my degree at Brighton. I studied and finished my degree during Covid, which impacted and influenced my project. The chair represents doing something out of your comfort zone. At first, the chair looks spiky or uncomfortable, but if you try it out, you’ll be pleasantly surprised by how comfortable it actually is. With help from my late upholsterer grandfather, we upholstered the seat with spikes all over it.

The frame is made out of chestnut wood and has black pleather fabric for the spikes. It is unique, strange and eye-catching.

In very good condition.
