Object History

When I first met my partner, he lived in Malvern, Worcestershire. This chair was in his flat, at his desk. He probably had it, and his desk, when he was at university in Manchester. He and the chair moved in with me in 2005. I haven't been able to part with it since he died in 2013, even though it's not in regular use. I think he would be delighted to think his chair would be used in this way.
During his university days before we met, he was part of "Whose World", a group that promoted recycling. They highlighted in newsletters (which my partner typed and duplicated by stencil) exactly what Michael Pinsky’s artworks address: the hidden environmental costs of manufacturing new items and clothing. They named and shamed the worst "big name" culprits. I agree with those concerns and "do my bit" to help by volunteering monthly at my local Repair Cafe.
