Object History

This chair was part of a second-hand 10-piece dining suite purchased by my grandfather in April 1918 for £10, while home recovering from injuries sustained during WW1. I have the Original Bill of Sale.

According to family stories, this chair and a carver chair (still in daily use) are all that remain when extreme poverty forced my grandfather to burn them as fuel during the 1930s.

Before Mum had it reupholstered in 1984 it was covered with very worn, ripped black leather. It came to me in 2006 and sadly has only ever lived in my loft!

In very good condition.
