Object History

I have worked in the NHS for over 20 years, supporting services behind the scenes in administrative and operational roles. This office chair represents a quiet but profound shift in how we worked during the COVID-19 pandemic. When offices closed and we were instructed to work from home, many of us felt uncertain and anxious, unprepared for what that change would mean. Accustomed to structured workplaces and daily routines, we suddenly recreated offices in spare rooms, kitchens and shared living spaces.

This chair became more than furniture; it symbolised adaptation, resilience and continuity. While frontline colleagues delivered visible, lifesaving care, many others sustained essential services remotely, ensuring systems, communication and coordination continued. It represents invisible labour, collective effort and the emotional adjustment required to keep the NHS functioning during unprecedented times.

In good condition.
